Tommy Bridewell will enjoy his first front row start of the season with Tyco BMW after posting the second fastest time in qualifying earlier today at Oulton Park during round four of the British Superbike Championship.
His team-mate Michael Laverty also made the all-important final Qualifying session [Q3] and will start from row three in tomorrow’s opening May Day race from eighth on the grid. In the Pirelli National Superstock class, Alastair Seeley will start from pole position after setting the fastest lap on his Tyco BMW S 1000 RR.
Tommy Bridewell: “I might have sounded a bit disappointed but I’m really happy with the progress the team and I are making. We have a good strong race pace and the feeling with the bike is bang on. It’s going to be a hard battle tomorrow but I’m up for it and feel we can fight for the win.”
Michael Laverty: “We’re now in the ballpark and the bike is now doing what I want it to do. The boys have worked hard to get me to this point and while I don’t expect to be challenging for the win tomorrow, I fully expect to be competitive and top five is certainly realistic.”
Alastair Seeley: “We’ve been right up there in the first three races of the year on the Tyco BMW, so the end goal tomorrow is to turn the pole position qualifying into a win. With the test last week we knew we had a good dry setting. Today was tough getting a clear lap, but we rattled off a few good ones and took pole. Tomorrow is all about being consistent but thanks to the team for a big effort and hopefully we can come away with a win and close the gap in the championship standings.”
Philip Neill – Team Manager: “It’s good to be back at the sharp end and very pleasing to see the effort all three riders are putting in. Since we took on the BMW Motorrad job it has been a work in progress and today we started to see the rewards from all the hard work both on track and back in the workshop. Let’s hope we can put on a good show for all involved tomorrow, then it’s off to the North West 200.”
