Tyco BMW mounted Alastair Seeley holds the provisional pole time in the Pirelli National 1000cc Superstock class, following today’s opening qualifying session at Brands Hatch in Kent.
A podium finisher in his first race of the new season aboard his BMW Motorrad S 1000 RR at Donington Park a fortnight ago, certainly demonstrates the talented Ulsterman’s versatility.
Moving back onto 1000cc machinery after a few seasons in the Supersport class have taken a little bit of getting used to, which the double British champion openly admits, but he is delighted to be representing BMW Motorrad and his Tyco BMW team this season in the Superstock class.
Recounting his opening day, Seeley said: “The first session on the bike felt pretty good today and although we made a change midway through, we reverted back to the original setting for the second session. We did tidy things up at the front end a bit and worked on consistency during that second outing, which I’m please with.
“I know there’s more time to come from both myself and the S 1000 RR Tyco BMW: maybe that will be with the help of a new tyre, but we have the race pace, so a good opening day all round and provisional pole is a decent start.”
Seeley’s second and final qualifying takes place tomorrow at 12.45pm and his 24-lap race on Sunday at 12pm
