Two podiums for Tyco BMW concluded a strong weekend for the Northern Ireland based BMW Motorrad team, with Tommy Bridewell’s third place in BSB race two, all but matching Alastair Seeley’s second place podium in the National Superstock 1000cc class earlier in the day.
Bridewell was openly frustrated at not having turned his front row start in race one into a podium, losing out on the final lap to finish fourth, one place ahead of his Tyco BMW team-mate Michael Laverty.
In race two Bridewell fought all the way to the flag, with third place a fitting reward for his efforts. Michael Laverty unfortunately crashed out whilst disputing a top six spot after a strong weekend for the Ulsterman. Tommy is up to fourth in the BSB championship standing and Michael sixth, with just three races to come at Oulton in a fortnight’s time before the top six Showdown for the title is decided at Assen, Silverstone and Brands Hatch.
Tommy Bridewell: “Podiums are what we come racing for and races like that gives the team a whole boost. They are working so, so hard for me this season with the S1000RR. Even though I train twice a day, I feel exhausted as I am over riding the bike a little at times, but we’re constantly making progress and we can look forward to the remaining rounds this year beginning at Oulton Park, where we took a win earlier in the season.”
Michael Laverty: “I gave it everything I had today. I was missing a little bit on acceleration in race one but the team improved the bike for race two and I had much better pace. I was pushing hard and simply clipped the kerb with my engine casing and slipped off. It’s disappointing to lose the points in race two but fifth was solid in race one. We will now look to consolidate my position inside the top six at Oulton Park, whilst working to take the next step of development with the Tyco BMW.”
Alastair Seeley: “I think we got out of jail a little today having fluffed the start before the red flag. Josh was that little bit stronger than me in the second sector and taking into consideration I almost got wiped out by Joe Burns’ bike, I’ll take those 20 points today. We’re 22 behind now with three races left, so we know what we have to do, but I’ve still every confidence we can take it to the final day and the final race of 2015 on the Tyco BMW.”
Philip Neill – Team Manager: “Overall we are satisfied with our weekend at Cadwell Park, where the BMW S1000RR showed its full potential with strong results all round. Congratulations to the other BMW riders who also finished on the podium. In Superbike we bagged some solid points once again to strengthen our challenge in the top six, although I feel both riders had the pace for the podium today, so in that respect we would have liked more than one podium credit.
“In Superstock we can again be satisfied with second place after a messy race. Although after dominating most of the weekend Alastair naturally wanted to challenge for the race win today. We still have a chance to challenge for the Superstock title in the remaining rounds, and are also in a good position to have both our BSB riders in the championship showdown. We now look forward to Oulton Park in two weeks time.”
