Following five podiums at Silverstone’s opening British Superbike round for 2016, the whole Tyco BMW team is very much looking ahead with optimism to this weekend at Oulton Park’s Bank Holiday meeting.
Michael Laverty took the race one victory at Silverstone aboard his Tyco BMW S1000RR, and but for a small technical problem in race two, was confident that he could have recorded a double win.
Christian Iddon posted his maiden podiums in the British Superbike Championship with third place in both outings, and with the Tyco duo currently occupying second and third place respectively in the BSB championship standings – both are looking forward to Monday’s 18-lap races at Oulton Park.
Michael Laverty – BSB: “Everything has gone pretty much to plan in both testing and at round one. We almost had the perfect opening weekend but luck was not on our side in race two. I was also consistently top three in last week’s test at Oulton Park, which is the toughest circuit on the calendar for me. I always said that if I could be competitive there, it would be a good benchmark, as I know I can be fighting for the wins at all other circuits. I was even disappointed not to come out of the test fastest, which for me was down to traffic on the circuit, but we have a good set-up on the Tyco BMW and the biggest obstacle this weekend for everyone is going to be the weather.”
Christian Iddon – BSB: “At Silverstone we didn’t put a foot out of line, but it can’t be classed as a perfect weekend, as that would have meant winning both races. In saying that, I was very happy to score two podiums on my first weekend with Tyco BMW, showing the momentum we have made and the quality of the S1000RR package. We also did a good job at the Oulton test finishing second quickest overall. I’ve found a more comfortable set-up on the bike, which I believe we can further improve this weekend, where I want to keep that consistent run going.”
At Silverstone, Tyco BMW riders Josh Elliott and Ian Hutchinson finished second and third respectively in the British Superstock 1000cc class, having circulated together for long periods. Reigning champion Elliott and 11-time TT winner Hutchinson are again hungry for podium action with one and two steps higher being the optimum goal for both men.
Philip Neill – Team Manager: “It would easy to look at what we possibly didn’t achieve at Silverstone, and that’s what keeps you hungry in racing. But to take five podiums away from the opening round of the season across two classes with four riders – three of them new to the team – is exactly what we are here for. It keeps BMW Motorrad’s S1000RR package to the forefront in both classes and also gives our title partner Tyco Security Products and other associated partners a top class showing. Long may it continue.”
