The tenth round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship proved to be a difficult weekend for Tyco BMW after a positive start to the event that showed the potential of both the team and the S1000RR.
The weekend began strongly for both sides of the garage, with Christian Iddon and Glenn Irwin showing a promising pace throughout free practice and qualifying, setting times inside the current lap record pace. However, race day proved to be the toughest of the season for the Moneymore-based team.
The TAS Racing team showed incredible teamwork and professionalism after crashes for both riders leaving extensive damage to the BMW S1000RR for Irwin’s side of the garage after warm up and then Iddon following the opening race at the Dutch circuit. The Tyco BMW team though will take the positive progress into the penultimate round of the Bennetts British Superbike at Donington Park GP 4th-6th October.
It’s fair to say our trip to Assen certainly didn’t go to plan. Some positives early on in the weekend with the lap times showing great potential with both riders under the previous lap record pace.
Unfortunately however we once again suffered an untimely crash for both riders causing a significant setback to our potential.
I would like to pay tribute to our hard working crew and suspension partners K-Tech who produced another fine effort to rebuild the bikes on three separate occasions.
I honestly don’t recall a more testing weekend in our 17 years in BSB, and is goes without saying that Donington Park can’t come quick enough.
